The OKU card
Registering a child as OKU with the Department of Social Welfare opens several forms of help. It also carries conditions that are easy to miss.
Government treatment
A registered OKU child receives treatment at government facilities without charge.
It unlocks other schemes
Several subsidies and tax reliefs require the card first.
Many schemes need an approved centre
Check whether a grant requires an approved early intervention centre, because a home-visit-only service may not qualify.
